I strongly supported the 10-room addition to Valley Farm Public School and keeping Valley View Public School open. The Valley Farm addition better supports the needs of the students and teachers by providing additional classrooms to promote the best environment for safety, security and learning. Valley View provides an essential education environment for children in the Greenwood area and is an important part of a vibrant community. I am pleased to have assisted both schools by securing Pickering Council's support, contacting School Trustees and personally attending meetings. In January 2002, the Durham District School Board approved a school accommodation plan that provides for the expansion to Valley Farm Public School. The expansion is now complete and being put to good use. The Board also wisely decided that Valley View Public School would remain open. Valley View attendance is up and additional portables are planned to meet demand. In 2005 I have been working with Valley View School to improve lighting, sidewalks, and parking at the school. The City has completed lighting and construction is underway on a sidewalk in front of the school. Thanks to the Valley Farm School Community Council and the Valley View School Save Our School Committee for their work on these and ongoing important matters. © 2002-2008 - All Rights Reserved. |
