NOTICE OF MOTION/PETITION
ROUGE VALLEY AJAX PICKERING HOSPITAL OBSTETRICS CLOSURE
WHEREAS the Administration and Board of the Rouge Valley Health System has announced that they intend to move all births from Ajax Pickering Hospital to Centenary Hospital effective December 14, 2005;
WHEREAS the Doctors and Nurses of the Rouge Valley Ajax Pickering Hospital have provided exemplary medical services to the Ajax Pickering Community;
WHEREAS these professionals have been subjected to ongoing pressures for the past five (5) years as a result of the actions of the administration and Board who have systematically downsized services resulting in an environment that is no longer conducive to quality health care in our community;
WHEREAS obstetrics, birthing and other services that are proposed to be cut are necessities to this community and must remain at the Ajax Pickering Hospital as a component of a full service hospital;
WHEREAS moving all births to the Rouge Valley Centenary location has robbed the community of a vital medical service;
NOW THEREFORE, we the community directly impacted, support the motion of Ònon-confidenceÓ as adopted unanimously by the Doctors of Ajax Pickering Hospital;
AND FURTHER we hereby request that the decision to move all births effective December 14, 2005 be reversed.
AND FURTHER we hereby petition the Province of Ontario to immediately intervene to ensure that this service is restored and that a full review of the HospitalÕs Operations be carried out.
AND FURTHER that the Province of Ontario immediately release the necessary funds that will enable the Ajax Pickering Hospital to commence construction of its redevelopment plan.
